No one heard a sound

She shouted out in pain
As the crimson stream lay pouring out
The devil who lashed her smirked in victory
Yet no one heard a sound

The man lay drowning in bills
And he was losing his house to mortgage
He clamped his hair and screamed out loud
Yet no one heard a sound

His lover was standing with another man
Glowering in his presence
He dropped the gift he’d bought her and cried
Yet no one heard a sound

She saw her best friend dying
And she saw her bestie crawling with tumor
She pulled out her friendship charm and blamed the gods
Yet no one heard a sound

He was bullied everyday
The demons pulled on his hair and called him a sissy
A new pattern of blood stroked his wrist everyday
Yet no one heard a sound

They were all bright humans with genius minds
Who remained silent when they should’ve shouted out loud
Now they all lay down to witness the eternal slumber
And we still don’t hear the sound.

Yeah. It’s the universal paradox, yes. We are free to make our choices but aren’t free from their consequences. We choose to love someone, self destruction is what it truly is.

Yes, it has. We’ve become so self-centered that our obliviousness to others’ suffering grows every second.
