Life of a popular girl

They talk about her
Like she’s a gem
Like she’s the last glimpse of the horizon
Like she’s the sparkle in a glass of champagne
Like she’s a dream made of glitter
Like she’s the collision of hopes and dreams
Like she’s made of stardust
Like she’s a diamond in a coal mine

But what they fail to notice
Is that this diamond is losing its shine
The horizon is slowly fading as there comes a dark night
The glitter is black and the sparkles are all gone
The champagne is stale and the glass is all drained now
The dreams are fragile and they’re just splinters now
The stardust is black and turning regular

She’s dying
She’s dying and no one’s watching her
She’s not god, she’s not a fairy
She’s not a dream, nor is she the daughter of Mary
Beneath the glamour is a girl who cries
Look under her facade and you shall see
The life of a popular girl
Fading away slowly

In the eyes of the beholder, popularity is a flight beyond human magnanimity. But the one who the beholder sees knows what its like, living another’s dream. It’s sad really. It’s sad for the people who have to pretend their entire lives.

I find this beautiful and sad at the same time. For me, it rings- the pop girl’s light is fading and she needs someone to see it but no one cares about the girl beneath the popularity.

I know. The people who truly see beneath the facade and love that girl are who really matter.
