Photo album

Reality tears her world apart
As she sits in a corner flipping through an old photo album
Reminiscing the good old life
With tears lining her broken face

A ghost of a smile flutters upon her lips
As a Polaroid of her little sister smiling stares her in the face
A two year old naive soul bedecked in fake jewels
Looking up at her elder sister, smiling

Her heart suddenly flutters and drops
As she sees a photo of her friends dining
A group of wild, dauntless freaks
Drinking wine and not giving a care about the world

The world suddenly goes cold and her arms prickle up
As a picture of her boyfriend falls on her lap
The two of them sitting on the edge of a cliff
Hands in hands and hearts in hearts

The souls around her sigh in admiration
As they see a photo of a little puppy in her hand
Her little pug, Don was his name
Sitting on her lap with his brown paws in the air

The misery in her heart vanishes for a second
As she sees a family portrait smiling at her bloodshot eyes
Her parents, wise with their crinkly eyes and broad smiles
With their arms around her, hiding her from the atrocities of the world

Her momentary high climbs back down the void
As the album reaches its end
The world returns to its broken predicament
And she resumes her chores again.
